![]() In the Old Testament, there are several references to cleanliness and how it relates to God’s will. Let’s look at what the Bible says about this topic in general. In fact, the Bible makes a lot of references to cleanliness and purity, both in terms of physical and spiritual cleanliness. “If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.” – Matthew 11:15Ĭleanliness is next to godliness, the saying goes. “Wash yourselves make yourselves clean remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes cease to do evil.” – Isaiah 1:16 “Cleanliness is next to godliness.” – Proverbs 15:20 The Bible has much to say about cleanliness. But the benefits are huge: improved health and well-being for you and your family a better quality of life in general less illness and disease and even an increased lifespan! It’s not easy to maintain good hygiene-it takes time, effort, and resources. This phrase is so well-known that it could be considered a cliché, but it’s still true. It also teaches us that if we commit sins or bad deeds, then God will look down on us with disgust and anger.Ĭleanliness is next to godliness. This quote means that you should always keep yourself clean and tidy, so God will look favorably upon you. ![]() One of the most useful pieces of wisdom it contains is “cleanliness is next to godliness.” This saying can be found in Proverbs 15:3 and goes like this: “The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry but the face of the LORD is against those who do evil.” The Bible is full of helpful advice on how to live a good life. He created the world, so it makes sense that he would want us to keep our own spaces tidy. In Isaiah 43:19, God says, “I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up do you not perceive it?” And then he goes on to say how everything around him is in perfect order: “Before Me there was no God formed…and I declare and present Myself holy.” It also tells us that we should be like Him, so it makes sense that He would want us to keep our things organized. Amos 4:6.The Bible tells us that God is a God of order and that everything has its place. Cleanness of teeth denotes want of provisions. In scripture, cleanness of hands denotes innocence. Thus, a house is cleaned by sweeping and washing a field is cleaned by plowing and hoeing. To remove all foreign matter from to separate from any thing whatever is extraneous to it, or whatever is foul, noxious, or offensive, as dirt or filth from the hands, body or clothes, foul matter from a vessel, weeds, shrubs and stones from a meadow to purify. This use of clean is not now elegant, and not used except in vulgar language.ĬLEAN, v.t. Quite perfectly wholly entirely fully indicating separation or complete removal of every part.
